His 447 rushing yards against Genoa-Kingston in Week 9 set the Dukes’ single-game mark. His 2,282 yards set the new single-season record. And his 3,577 career yards rank second behind only Arthur Cox (4,956) in DHS lore. Knigge rushed for at least 200 yards in five of Dixon’s 11 games and amassed at least 150 yards nine times. He hit the 100-yard mark in all but one and scored a touchdown in all 11 games, with multiple TDs 10 times. He finished with 40 total touchdowns, 37 coming on the ground, helping the Dukes outscore their opponents 543-120. A 1,200-yard rusher as a junior in an offense that featured a senior-laden, prolific passing attack, Knigge was going to be the focal point while the aerial game found its footing. That turned out to be his only game with fewer than 100 yards, as he was pulled at halftime after five carries for 90 yards and a touchdown to go with the punt return score. The next 10 weeks, behind an experienced offensive line, Knigge ran around, over and through every defense the Dukes (9-2) faced; he even had 302 yards combined in Dixon’s losses to Byron and Coal City – the only two games where he played past the midway point of the third quarter.
