His father, Duane, earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a tight end at Michigan State in 1990 before spending six seasons in the NFL after being selected in the fifth round of the 1991 NFL Draft. His older brother, DJ, was a second-team All-Big Ten offensive lineman in 2010 and later spent time with the Arizona Cardinals. The two-time all-state selection didn’t allow a sack in 148 pass-blocking snaps last season while recording 40 pancake blocks, helping anchor a Maroon Giants offense that averaged 31 points per game and rushed for more than 2,500 yards during a campaign that earned a playoff appearance and a 6-3 record.
